EN Give praise, O you barren, that bear not: sing forth praise, and make a joyful noise, you that did not travail with child: for many are the children of the desolate, more than of her that has a husband, says the Lord.

EN Enlarge the place of your tent, and stretch out the skins of your tabernacles, spare not: lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes.
^2
3
EN For you shall pass on to the right hand, and to the left: and your seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and shall inhabit the desolate cities.
^3
4
EN Fear not, for you shall not be confounded, nor blush: for you shall not be put to shame, because you shall forget the shame of your youth, and shall remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.
^4
5
EN For he that made you shall rule over you, the Lord of hosts is his name: and your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, shall be called the God of all the earth.
^5
6
EN For the Lord has called you as a woman forsaken and mourning in spirit, and as a wife cast off from her youth, said your God.
^6
7
LA Ad punctum in modico dereliqui te, et in miserationibus magnis congregabo te.
EN For a small moment have I forsaken you, but with great mercies will I gather you.
^7
8
LA In momento indignationis abscondi faciem meam parumper a te; et in misericordia sempiterna misertus sum tui, dixit redemptor tuus, Dominus.
EN In a moment of indignation have I hid my face a little while from you, but with everlasting kindness have I had mercy on you, said the Lord your Redeemer.

EN This thing is to me as in the days of Noe, to whom I swore, that I would no more bring in the waters of Noe upon the earth: so have I sworn not to be angry with you, and not to rebuke you.
^9

EN For the mountains shall be moved, and the hills shall tremble; but my mercy shall not depart from you, and the covenant of my peace shall not be moved: said the Lord that has mercy on you.

LA Paupercula, tempestate convulsa absque ulla consolatione, ecce ego sternam per ordinem lapides tuos, et fundabo te in sapphiris:
EN O poor little one, tossed with tempest, without all comfort, behold I will lay your stones in order, and will lay your foundations with sapphires,
^11
12
LA et ponam jaspidem propugnacula tua, et portas tuas in lapides sculptos, et omnes terminos tuos in lapides desiderabiles;
EN and I will make your bulwarks of jasper: and your gates of graven stones, and all your borders of desirable stones.
^12
13
EN All your children shall be taught of the Lord: and great shall be the peace of your children.
^13
14
EN And you shall be founded in justice: depart far from oppression, for you shall not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near you.
^14
15
EN Behold, an inhabitant shall come, who was not with me, he that was a stranger to you before, shall be joined to you.
^15
16
LA Ecce ego creavi fabrum sufflantem in igne prunas, et proferentem vas in opus suum; et ego creavi interfectorem ad disperdendum.
EN Behold, I have created the smith that blows the coals in the fire, and brings forth an instrument for his work, and I have created the killer to destroy.
^16
17
EN No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper: and every tongue that resists you in judgment, you shall condemn. This is the inheritance of the servants of the Lord, and their justice with me, says the Lord.
